MIMRAM VALLEY AT TEWIN

A community led initiative to protect the historic landscape and environment of the Mimram Valley at Tewin.

About

The Mimram Valley at Tewin initiative has been created by the community to help protect the historic parkland of the Mimram Valley and, in particular, recover the area of Marden Fields aka Tewin Plotlands

We have the support of the Tewin Parish Council and are collectively concerned for the future of Marden Fields (see area map) and the local stretch of the beautiful Mimram Valley.

This community initiative has been established in response to the Tewin Parish Council flyer delivered to all Tewin residents in May 2021 highlighting the on-going problems arising from a developer’s piecemeal sale of land parcels covering 179 acres/72 hectares bounded by Old Hertford Road, Cannons Meadow, Grass Warren, Archers Green Lane, Hertford Road B1000, Archers Green/Tewin Mill and Marden Hill.

This area is sometimes referred to as Tewin Plotlands.

How can the community address this issue?

Following the Tewin Parish Council flyer, many respondents indicated an interest in a community based ‘not-for-profit’ initiative to recover Marden Fields plots.

To justify the time, cost and effort involved, this interest needs proving and quantifying. So our next challenge is to create a Community Enterprise capable of recovering Marden Fields – by raising funds, accessing grants, preparing a business plan, acquiring land and managing assets for the benefit of the community in partnership with ‘plot’ owners and by acquisition of land parcels which may become available for purchase. The initiative seeks to build partnerships with existing householders, farmers, businesses and other local interests.
